White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer looks at his upside-down US flag pin in the White House, Washington, March 10, 2017.
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer has become the laughing stock of the social media after wearing his American flag pin upside down.
In a light exchange at the onset of an otherwise tense media briefing on Friday, several reporters poked fun at Spicer after noticing his Stars and Stripes pin was upturned.
“Your pin’s upside-down,” Fox News’s John Roberts said.
“John Roberts, always helping with the fashion tips,” Spicer responded, seemingly unaware of the situation.
“It’s still upside-down,” another reporter told him.

“Is that a distress signal?” one reporter asked, taking a jab at a US law that bans disrespect to the flag and only allows it as a distress signal in instances of extreme danger to life or property."
“‘House of Cards’ promo?” someone asked, referring to a popular political drama that features an upside-down US flag in its logo.
“There’s no promo,” Spicer told journalists before proceeding to answer their questions.
Spicer’s blunder prompted a tweet by the official Twitter account for the House of Cards: “Your loyalty has not gone unnoticed.”
“Someone please rescue Sean Spicer who is clearly signaling for help by wearing an American flag pin upside down,” another user wrote.
“Sean Spicer's American flag pin is upside down. Upside down flag is a distress symbol. Headline: Metaphor Delivers Press Conference,” another user said.
