Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations Gholamali Khoshroo
Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations says that women have suffered the most from the recent crises in the Middle East.
Expressing his sorrow over the continued crises in the region, Gholamali Khoshroo made the remarks on Tuesday, while addressing a UN Security Council meeting held in New York.
“Women in the Middle East region live with a huge fear resulting from the Takfiri ideologies used by extremist and terrorist groups,” he said. “Terrorist groups systematically target women with methods such as slavery, sexual assault, and sexual exploitation."
He added that exposure to sexual violence results in women losing their opportunities for social and economic development.
Iran’s UN envoy went on to note that the Tel Aviv regime’s policies towards the people of Palestine, especially women, are just one example of how women’s rights are being violated.
Israel has waged three wars on Gaza since 2008, including the 2014 offensive, which left more than 2,200 Palestinians dead and over 11,100 others injured.
The Gaza Strip has been under an Israeli siege since 2007. The blockade has led to a dramatic decline in the standards of living as well as substantial levels of unemployment and poverty.

He also stressed that at least 1600 women have so far been killed since Saudi Arabia began its war on Yemen.
Saudi Arabia has been incessantly pounding Yemen since March 2015 in an attempt to bring back to power the resigned president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who is a staunch ally of Riyadh, and to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement. The Riyadh regime has, however, failed to reach its goals despite suffering great expense.
The military aggression has claimed the lives of more than 12,000 people, most of them civilians.
